What is a domain name?

Domain Name:
A Domain Name is a unique name that you choose for your web site. Websites are identified by their names called Domain Names (e.g: google.com, rnrewebsitedesign.com ) or IP Addresses (e.g: 72,293.55.3). A Domain Names has to be registered before you can have the ownership of that name.
The Internet’s IP addresses are not especially user-friendly for finding things, so Domain Names are used in parallel with IP addresses. The relationship between IP addresses and Domain Names are is that they are managed by a Domain Name System (DNS), a hierarchical database distributed to servers all over the Internet. The root is located at the top of the hierarchy, followed by the upper domain layer. The database root is implemented in a limited number of root servers, the majority of them located in the US. The upper domain layer is normally either a country or an organization description like .com, .ca, .net, .org..
